St. Joseph Athletic Facility was featured on a recent Fox 4 TV report that noted the broad community impact of the facility as a hub for for youth sports.

The news story noted how the facility will address the challenges faced by CYO and Special Olympics Kansas in finding suitable practice and play spaces for its teams.

The new facility, which is a renovation of Mirocke Stadium (built in the 1950s for the former St. Joseph High School), will become a hub for CYO, SOKS and other community nonprofit organizations. The facility will host flag and tackle football, soccer, track and field practices and other sports activities and special events.

Planned renovations for the stadium include installing new turf, a video scoreboard, new stadium lighting, fencing and a new sound system. Additional parking and a maintenance facility will round out improvements, estimated at $4.2 million.

The project is being privately funded by individuals, families and businesses in the community. The St. Joseph Athletic Facility is projected to attract more than 30,000 new visitors to events and activities at the facility in downtown Shawnee, KS.
